Our last Snake River float trip for the 2018 Nature Mapping program is done! While we will miss our float trips, we are looking forward to everything that winter brings. Here is a word from Tim, our Nature Mapping leader:
Below you will find the species list from the last Nature Mapping Float Trip of the season. Thank you all for your efforts and participation in this very important research project. Our species count was low, but not atypical for this time of year. However, what we lacked in numbers were made up by some VERY COOL birds! The sighting of the day was the Northern Goshawk that was being harassed by a Magpie and flew directly over the boat for an easy ID. As if that was not enough, we were able to observe several Forester’s Terns fishing in the backwaters during the last half of the trip. We were also greeted by a Merlin that flew directly over the boat. To top it off, we were able to sight 17 Bald Eagles with several pairs sitting close together allowing for excellent contrasts to size between the sexes.
Camp was VERY quiet even for this time of year.
